Every year, we commemorate our fallen troops and the innocent victims of terror attacks since the establishment of the Israeli state.
After a short 69 years of existence, we have managed to established quite a "collection" and in such a small nation, it seems like everyone has at least someone that was killed in a war or a terror attack :-( Someone recently told me, he feels like it has become more of a personal memorial day rather than a national one. I admit it took me a couple of minutes to realize that something is really warped here. Aren't memorial days built from personal loss? We are so consumed with our survival way of leaving that our personal loss has blurred into our collective yearning for a joined cause.
Well, I for one can get along without both... It's time to stop "celebrating" death and start preventing the next one.

Truth be told
Good morning, sir, how are you? Thank you, please, you're welcome, sorry, sure, enjoy, have a nice day, of course, go ahead, my pleasure... I forgot what normal feels like.
I posted this on facebook a couple of weeks ago, a few days after arriving in NYC, because you usually notice these things when you travel. And yes, it makes it sound like where I'm from is the most unpolite place in the world.
But let me sort things up for you. It's true, us Israelis are rough. My fellow countrymen are for lack of any better word - crude. Maybe it's because we live our lives in a state of war or the fear of one. Or maybe we're simply a young nation and the evolution of culture takes time. But to be honest it doesn't really matter why. It's time to evolve. Don't get me wrong, there are amazing things here in my wonderful city of Tel-Aviv. We have amazing weather, beautiful beaches, superb food, great nightlife, cool people and it's really a great place to live (expensive but great). But... we can improve.
Now things are improving, all the time, but still I just wish it wouldn't take so long.

The truth is out there
Is it?
The majority of people (I hope) won't take any of Trump's words for granted, but yet a leading news icon such as the New York Times found it important to prove itself truthful to him. The person whom they lease respect and see as truthful, be it the president of the USA.
Actually, was there ever a completely truthful president? Or did they all simply act the part?
Now I for one, choose to trust the New York Times over Trump any time. Still, we all must ask ourselves, nowadays when almost everyone can upload anything to the web, how do we know what is true and what is false? Does the fact this post, for example, will now be on the web forever make it true?
I have a lot of questions I know, but it's on my mind all the time. Basically, we could all be living a lie oblivious by choice to anything else around us in a sort of Matrix or maybe we just live like this as a form of self-preservation. I choose to be awake and try and sort out the truth (at least try) from everything. I believe you should too
